Happy Valentine's Day

Flowers, candy, red hearts and romance. That's what Valentine's day is all about, right? Well, maybe not so much. The origin of this holiday for the expression of love really isn't romantic at all, at least not in the traditional sense. The story of how it all began goes something like this.

Valentine was imprisoned for his Christian beliefs, and while in jail, he restored the sight of his jailers' blind daughter through his faith and love for her. Before his execution, on the Feb.14. AD, Valentine sent her a note signed "From your Valentine." This phrase became the everlasting symbol of friendship, affection and sharing with others.

In 1537, Henry VIII, who had more cause than most for sending a Valentines note, established Feb.14 as St.Valentine's Day by Royal Charter, but it wasn't until printing techniques started to develop that the exchange of illustrated paper that Valentine's Day began to develop as we know it today.

Until today I’ve never really thought about the meaning behind Valentine’s Day. Whatever the story may be Valentine’s Day for me is always going to be about spending time with loved ones. I hope everyone has a great day!

I don't think I have ever heard the story behind Valentine's Day until now. I love learning new things.
